No. ARI is a closed registry. Both the dam and sire of the alpaca must be registered with ARI.

If the registration has not yet been completed, you may submit a Support Issue through the ARI website to add or remove a co-owner. If you prefer, you may also fax or mail a signed letter to ARI. A data correction fee does apply.

If the registration is complete, then this is considered a Correction of Registered Accounts. As a courtesy, you have 30 days to mail the registration certificate with the correction request to ARI, during which time the change will be billed as a reprint and data correction fee. After 30 days we charge the correction of registered accounts fee.

At this point in the registration we must disqualify the incorrect dam/sire so that only the true one qualifies. Additional testing is generally required to update the existing DNA panel and add new markers. If additional testing has already been completed and a disqualification still cannot be made, then the ARI administration will decide the next step.

There are many reasons why a qualification may not be achieved and does not automatically mean that the dam and/or sire submitted was incorrect. Please contact the ARI office to discuss your particular registration.

No. The original rules put into place have remained even though we now test for 18 markers instead of 9 markers.

There must be at least 7 markers in common between the dam, cria, and sire.

If there are only 7 markers in common between dam, cria, and sire, then there can be no exclusions. If there are 8 or more markers in common between dam, cria and sire, then there can only be one exclusion.

If you are registering your alpaca online, enter the number during the registration process and it will print on the certificate.

If you are completing your registration on paper and mailing it to our office, please consider sticking one of the bar code stickers that came with your microchip directly onto the registration. This will help reduce reading errors when ARI enters the chip number. The microchip number will print on the certificate.
